The Play

It is not often clear when our responsibilities to family, employer or community (peer group) take precedence over our personal needs. This is particularly true for adolescents, but that does not mean it is black and white for adults. The resulting conflict can produce feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and unworthiness. Thus the allegory of Gregor Samsa who, when faced with such a dilemma finds himself transformed into a gigantic insect. This classic tale by Franz Kafka is as relevant today as it was when written 100 years ago.

Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum

Apr 14 2007 - 7:00pm

Trinity Arts Council presents a Bluegrass concert with Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum Saturday evening, April 14th.

Tickets are $15, and can be purchased in advance in Weaverville at the Main Street Gallery, Mamma Llama's Coffeeshop, and the Chamber of Commerce, as well as at the door on the 14th. Doors open at 6:15pm on the night of the show.

A little bit more about Laurie and Tom...

Since forming a musical partnership in 1986, when Rozum first joined Lewis’ acclaimed band, Grant Street, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum have recorded 12 albums and performed around the globe. These Grammy-nominated artists (for "The Oak and the Laurel") are widely regarded as among the leading lights of modern bluegrass and are highly prized by their peers as sidemen and producers.

Lewis herself has won a Grammy (in 1997 for "True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe") and twice been named Female Vocalist of the Year by the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association). Dan Hays of the IBMA says "Laurie is one of the pre-eminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time. She spreads her talent over several genres - bluegrass, folk, country - and with the recognition she has within all those fields, I would certainly say she's one of the top five female artists of the last 30 years. And she continues to make great music."

Lewis' performing companion is ace mandolinist-singer Tom Rozum. "I love to have a partner to sing with, crave it deep down inside," Lewis says. "And Tom's the same way. He's a very conversational mandolin player, always responding to what's going on at the moment."

This season, Lewis is everywhere in the national bluegrass news: as the April cover artist of Bluegrass Unlimited, as Acoustic Guitar Magazine's May Player Spotlight, and as featured in the April issue of Fiddler Magazine, in Paul Shelasky's "Bluegrass Fiddling" column.
